Swansea, UK, April 5, 2017 - Dedicated to advanced NDT inspection technologies, Silverwing is proud to announce the launch of Scorpion2, which brings anticipated improvements to the first version of Scorpion.
The Scorpion has been successfully deployed for 10 years, but technical advances and increasing market demands required a complete technical redesign. Listening to the large Scorpion user base led Silverwing to improve the design and performance of the unit, leading to the arrival of Scorpion2, a state-of-the-art remote-control ultrasonic crawler . Scorpion2 is approximately five times faster than its predecessor, measuring thicknesses at speeds up to 150 mm/s (5 in/s).
- The dry-coupled probe wheel removes the need for an external water source, usually needed for UT inspections.
- The gimballed probe holder enables inspecting uneven surfaces.
- The 50 m (164 ft) umbilical removes the need for scaffolding.
- The ability to program the length and pattern of scans gives users more flexibility.
Scorpion2 has four permanent magnet drive wheels and two encoders, making it possible to compensate for the crawler's drift from slippage and the weight of the cable. Furthermore, it has a significantly sleeker design, making it easier and faster to set up than the original Scorpion.
