Our Story

Our Story - Beyond Current

Established in 2009 with the goal of pursuing and developing eddy current array (ECA) technology to its full potential for the benefit of the nuclear industry, Eddyfi Technologies has since become the reference in advanced NDT solutions. From this initial beachhead market, Eddyfi’s systematic and disciplined approach allowed successfully serving other key industries needing advanced NDT systems for the inspection of critical assets and components. Until 2016, Eddyfi’s footprint grew exclusively thanks to new applications, product development, and geographical expansion. The company then started a series of strategic acquisitions to broaden its product portfolio with synergistic modalities and complementary capabilities: Silverwing, TSC, Teletest, M2M, Inuktun, and Zetec all brought new NDT methods and technologies, along with an increased presence worldwide with offices in key regions to better serve customers. Simultaneously, realizing the ever-growing importance of software for industrial applications, the company increased its focus on advanced algorithms, assisted analysis capabilities (including the use of machine learning/ artificial intelligence or AI), and was first to engineer an offering based on continuously improving software for the NDT equipment market. Since its inception in 2009, Eddyfi has always been keen on doing things differently, and remains motivated – more than ever – to always be Beyond Current.

Each year, Eddyfi hosts its annual Community Week. The objective is simple: through team effort, employees spend a workday doing something of value to our communities, whether it be through helping those in needs, working to prepare a communal park for the Summer, etc. This is an opportunity to show our passion, our team-spirit and our commitment.

Powerful Roots

Eddyfi’s co-founder and CEO Martin Theriault was born and raised in the Quebec neighbourhood of Limoilou and lower downtown. This is a very interesting and diverse community which unfortunately faces several social challenges. As a special way to giving back, a large portion of M. Theriault’s personal philanthropic involvement and financial contribution is focused on non-profit that impact the Limoilou community. This includes the Patro Roc-Amadour as well as the Centre Jacques-Cartier, two organizations near and dear to Martin' heart.

Historical Brands

Eddyfi

Eddyfi was established in 2009 with the goal of pursuing and developing eddy current array (ECA) technology to its full potential. The company invested massively in R&D and new product development, expanding from its initial beachhead market – surface inspection in the nuclear and power generation industries – to other markets such as oil & gas, heavy industries, and aerospace. The company soon became the reference for heat exchanger tubing inspection equipment and developed the most advanced pulsed eddy current system commercially available. The company’s mission, before entering a series of strategic acquisitions, was to push the limits of electromagnetic NDT to new heights, hence the company’s original name.

Silverwing

Silverwing started as a service inspection company in 1983, specializing in NDT, contract management, training and consulting. In the early ‘90s, Silverwing invested in the development of Magnetic Flux Leakage (MFL) equipment to detect corrosion under the floor of bulk liquid storage tanks. Initially, the intent was to add inspection service to the company’s portfolio of petrochemical client. The success of the MFL equipment quickly spread around the industry and the decision was made to add manufacturing and product sales to the company’s activities. In direct response to customer requests for computerized equipment, R&D led to the development of the Floormap® system which is now the world’s leading MFL mapping floor scanner. In 2016, Silverwing was acquired by Eddyfi. This initial strategic acquisition led to the establishment of Eddyfi Technologies.

Teletest

Teletest was set up in 1997 by TWI as part of Plant Integrity Ltd (Pi) to exploit long range ultrasonic testing (LRUT) technology, also referred to as Guided Wave Ultrasonic Testing (GWUT). This technology had been developed in a multi-client collaborative project, managed by TWI, with additional funding provided by the European Commission. The equipment, primarily designed to efficiently screen long pipe sections for corrosion – including buried pipes –, is marketed under the Teletest® trade name and was the first commercially available LRUT system. In 2017, the Teletest product portfolio was acquired by Eddyfi Technologies and has been part of the offering ever since.

TSC

TSC was established in 1984 by a team of professors and lecturers at the University College London who were already recognized leaders in the field of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT). Initially, TSC was founded to develop instrumentation and software for the control of test machines. However, following an approach by a consortium of oil majors keen to improve underwater inspection quality and data reliability, TSC began a research and development program that gave birth to the Alternating Current Field Measurement (ACFM®) technique. The subsequent practical and commercial application of ACFM technology significantly advanced the NDT inspection world. TSC, who joined Eddyfi Technologies in 2017, brought ACFM equipment and specialized offshore inspection services to the company.

M2M

M2M was established in 2003 after a 3-year R&D program aimed at developing the most innovative ultrasonic phased array instrumentation. Since the beginning, M2M has been collaborating closely with the CEA (the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission) allowing for unprecedented advancements in the field of phased array UT equipment. In 2004, M2M developed the first full parallel hardware architecture for industrial PAUT applications. During the following years, M2M took the market by storm by releasing the first Full Matrix Capture (FMC) systems for matrix PAUT probes and subsequently commercialized the first portable PAUT flaw detector with real-time TFM, the Gekko®. M2M was acquired by Eddyfi Technologies in 2018 and is a key element of the product portfolio.

Inuktun

Created in 1989, Inuktun’s mission was to create technology enabling people to perform tasks that they could not otherwise do, in places they could not otherwise go. The goal was not to replace people, but instead provide products that enable access to areas that are too dangerous or remote for direct human intervention. Inuktun is the industry leading designer and manufacturer of Multi-Mission Modular (IM3™) inspection systems – including Remote Visual Inspection (RVI) capabilities – for use in hazardous areas, confined spaces and underwater applications throughout the world. In 2019, Inuktun was acquired by Eddyfi Technologies and has been part of the offering ever since.

Zetec

For over 50 years, Zetec has been a global leader in NDT solutions for critical inspection needs of key industries including power generation, oil and gas, aerospace, automotive, maritime, military, rail, and manufacturing. What started with a government contract for the inspection of steam generators at nuclear power plants flourished into Zetec becoming one of the industry’s leading developers of eddy current technology. Acquired in 2002 by Roper Technologies, Zetec continued to operate as an independent company with a strong business foundation. In 2004, it acquired the power generation assets of R/D Tech in Quebec City to expand its phased array ultrasonic testing offering. For the years to follow, Zetec would continue to expand its headquarters and international footprint. Well positioned to serve industry’s diverse needs with a unique and impressive portfolio, the company entered into an agreement for acquisition by Eddyfi/NDT; since 2022, Zetec solutions have been incorporated into Eddyfi Technologies product offering.

Sensor Networks, Inc.

Sensor Networks, Inc., founded in 2014, began with a vision to revolutionize corrosion monitoring by modernizing the electronics and enabling direct internet connectivity for convenient trending and analysis. Today, Sensor Networks is an integral part of Eddyfi Technologies' product portfolio, contributing to its continued growth and success. With a team of highly experienced experts in ultrasonic and remote visual technologies, Sensor Networks offers targeted solutions to address complex industrial challenges. Their expertise includes remote non-intrusive asset integrity monitoring in refineries and chemical plants, experience-based ultrasonic (UT) applications engineering, standard and customized ultrasonic transducers, and remote visual tooling for inspection and retrieval applications common in power generation, mining, and oil and gas. By combining their deep knowledge with a personalized approach, Eddyfi Technologies delivers Sensor Networks smarter, cost-effective, and precise solutions that redefine asset management in critical industries.
